Best Selling Books

Best selling books are those that have been deemed popular due to their inclusion on sales lists that track publishing numbers. “Best selling” refers to the number of books actually sold, rather than the number in print overall.

In common usage, “best seller” is often used loosely to describe a popular book, and is not tied to a specific sales number. The term is denotes popularity and influence rather than distinctive quality.

Best seller lists are typically sorted and displayed by book type and genre (for example, best-selling nonfiction, best-selling trade paperback, and so forth). At a minimum, the categories are usually split into fiction and nonfiction. Subcategories from there vary according to different list compilers.
