Used Books

A used book is simply a book that has been owned before by someone other than a publisher or retailer. Generally this means other readers, or libraries. A used book may come with highlighting or written comments in the margins.

There are many used book stores throughout the United States. In most cases, used books are less expensive than new ones, with the exception being antiques, first editions, or other rare, collectible books. Though the degree in price reduction varies, typically used books can be purchased for about one-half to three-quarters the price of its new counterpart.

The used book industry is a major one in the United States. In addition to used bookstores, used books can be purchased on popular websites like eBay and Amazon, as well as in university bookstores.
